Vinyl Plank Flooring
Vinyl plank flooring is a novel product that looks and feels like real wood. This type of flooring is waterproof. Thus, it is a good solution for moisture-prone areas that are usually ‘off-limits’ to hardwood, laminate or engineered wood flooring, like bathrooms.

Vinyl Flooring Facts
Vinyl flooring is often confused with linoleum flooring. Linoleum is composed of natural products, like linseedoil (from fax plant seeds), pine rosin, wood or cork powder and limestone. The primary ingredient in vinyl flooring is vinyl itself, made from PCV (polyvinyl chloride), also known as ‘plastic’ to the layperson. Flexibility in the product is due to plasticizer additives. Unlike many other flooring types, vinyl flooring is padded. This is advantageous two-fold. During installation, no underlay is required, which further cuts down cost. Secondly, this padding adds comfort, warmth and quiet under foot and reduces the chances of breakage should dishes be dropped on its surface.
Maintaining Your Vinyl Floor
Now that you have your attractive and affordable vinyl flooring installed, here are tips to keep your vinyl flooring looking like new:
- when washing, use a non-rinsing cleaner that leaves no film
- use felt pads on furniture legs to avoid scratching the floor
- avoid placing rubber-backed rugs on the floor — the rubber may leave a stain
- place a heavy-duty doormat at your front door and encourage visitors to wipe their feet
- immediately remove stains with a no-rinse floor cleaner, then wipe the affected area with a damp cloth to remove any residue
